Edison Glass Quality music through trials and tribulations. Edison Glass hail from Long Island and are steadily working their way up the music industry. After being featured on Fearless Music and touring through most of 2006, the band was robbed and $8,000 worth of equipment was stolen. But that doesn't stop Edison Glass from reaching out to and giving back to the global community. They are regular supporters of organizations such as Justice for Children International and DATA ( Debt. Aids. Trade. Africa.). We think that's pretty cool. | Disappointed by Candy We like what Michael Vine had to say about them: "The band includes a lead singer I will forever call “Big Sweet Sangin Daddy”, a remarkably talented, Mr. Bean-like drummer, and the keyboard-playing progeny of an Æsir deity and a professional wrestler. This sombrero-wearing trio laid down measure after measure of idiomatic Anglo-American whiteboy grooves, melding conventional instrumental melodies with electronic sound clips." WORD, and it's awesome too. |
Estates You would never know from his lyrics that the vocalist of Estates isn't an American citizen. Franc Castillejos was born in Guatemala, came to the United States as a high school student on a student visa and did what probably anyone would do: start an indie band and take Atlanta by storm. Now after battling deportation and the charming folks US immigration, Estates is all set to break out of the South and into the mainstream. | The Station Myth Four guys name Daniel who love to play music? We wonder if they are all actually named Daniel or if this is a marketing ploy ala the Donnas, but nevermind the music is hypnotic. Unfortunately, life has taken the key players of Station Myth to different sides of the country and thus a permanent hiatus, but their music is still worth a listen. |
Gogol Bordello You know this band, you just don't know that you know them yet. We first took note of this band when the lead singer charmed our hearts as Alex in Everything is Illuminated, but their music has also been featured in other movies including the trailer for the sleeper hit Wristcutters. Combining Gypsy music with punk performance art Gogol Bordello remains one of the coolest bands we've ever heard. Plus they are dedicated to giving back to the Roma community. | Benny Strange It's hard to explain what we really like about Benny Strange. His sound is unique, yet we could easily imagine it played on the Top 40 radio stations. It doesn't strike you as groundbreaking, but it gets into you and is just plain old nice to listen to (geez! remember that! Music that was just nice to listen to?!?). Then of course there is his hitchhiking adventure across the country at the age of 18 with nothing but a sleeping bag, an acoustic guitar and $112 that started this all off. Well, he just seems like he would fit in here. |
Tryo With 10 years of experience this French band is far from indie, but despite coquering Europe and Canada and selling more than 900,000 albums Tryo has yet to really break into American markets. That's a shame, even those with no French skills at all can pick up on Tryo's clever whimsy. | |
